PLEASE SHARE THIS LETTER ON GOSPEL PREACHING IN THE PHILIPPINES!
May 19, 2015th Year of Our Lord

Dear brethren,

My 59th preaching trip to the Philippines and 5th trip to Australia is set for July 28-August 26, since my first Philippine trip with Jim McDonald in 1995.  Keith Greer, faithful evangelist at the Harrodsburg, KY church of Christ, will make his 10th trip with me.  Grayson Key, a faithful Christian here in Louisville, will join us for his first trip.  Though not a preacher, he is a capable teacher.  We must be busy preparing men for Christ’s return.  Christ said, “Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,  And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation” (Jn. 5:28-29).

Three of us can cover far more ground than is possible on a typical trip.  Rody Gumpad of Tuguegarao, Cagayan Province will accompany Keith and Grayson to areas where more work is greatly needed.  They will go to Palawan where several preachers have been restored from the errors of the one-container faction to further edify these men.  The island of Mindoro is off the beaten path and preachers laboring there in remote areas need help.  After visiting Mindoro, these three brethren will return to Manila.  On the l7th Grayson will return to the U.S., but Rody and Keith will proceed to La Union and Pangasinan provinces to work with brethren on the western side of Luzon who rarely receive such visits.

Meanwhile, my schedule will take me to the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines.  In December of 2010 a leading proponent of premillennialism named Cyrus Gesulga attended my two days of lessons on The Authority of Christ in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental.  Extensive correspondence followed.  He invited me to speak on a lectureship for his brethren in April of 2011 where I addressed the issue and in August he publicly confessed he had been wrong to debate the issue and cause division.  Since that time, he has stated that premillennial teaching never saved a soul and should be dropped in favor of preaching the simple gospel of Christ.  He has taken me to many congregations to speak and has gathered his brethren to hear our lessons.  Many premillennial churches still need to be visited.  More teaching is needed.

None of these men including Cyrus has ever had the opportunity to hear a verse by verse study of the book of Revelation and there are things which have not been fully clarified in their minds.  I asked Cyrus if he would like to gather as many of these preachers as possible for such a study – he agreed  enthusiastically.  The whole week of August 3 will be devoted at Cagayan de Oro City to the theme of “Victory in Christ” as we go through Revelation and lessons on what will happen at the end of time.  Daniel King’s new workbook on The Book of Revelation, Robert Harkrider’s workbook, and Mike Willis’ Then Cometh the End will be provided.  Cipriano Carpentero, Jr. and other brethren will be present to help us.

The week of August 10 I will repeat the same series of lessons at Davao City in southern Mindanao with the help of Juanito Balbin and other good brethren. Lordy Salunga will share teaching duties with me.

Teaching the classes on Revelation will be expensive.  The literature alone will cost over $2,000.  I must rent venues adequate to escape the oppressive heat and humidity.  Keith won’t be with me to share the expenses, but I will pray and trust that God will somehow provide. We must strike while the iron is hot!

I will spend the week of August 17 teaching in Gladstone and Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia where there are open doors.  The theme at Rockhampton will be “It Is Time to Serve God.”

When I return to Manila to meet Keith, we will order over $10,000 worth of Bibles in Filipino dialects before we return home on August 26.  Generous donations are earmarked for this purpose.

The prayers and donations of saints make these trips possible.  Individuals needing a legal tax deduction may write checks to Help A Neighbor.  Write all other checks to Ron Halbrook. Mail all checks to 3505 Horse Run Ct., Shepherdsville, KY 40165-6954. Donors receive financial reports (2 Cor. 8:21).
