PLEASE SHARE THIS LETTER ON GOSPEL PREACHING IN THE PHILIPPINES!
January 6, 2016th Year of Our Lord

Dear brethren,

Time waits for no man and we are already well into 2016 – it is time for my 61st preaching trip to the Philippines since first going with Jim McDonald in 1995.  The trip is planned for February 9-25.  By God’s good providence, it is harvest time in the Philippines as many Filipinos are searching for God, for truth, and for salvation.  What a privilege we have to proclaim the unsearchable riches of the gospel of Christ to hungry souls.  When many turned away from Christ, he asked the Apostles if they would also leave him. “Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.  And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God” (Jn. 6:68-69).

Steven Deaton resigned the work of full time preaching here at the Hebron Lane church of Christ, effective January 1.  He decided to do secular work at this time but will continue to serve as a faithful, beloved, and active member of this congregation.  The elders invited David Dann from Lewisville, TX to labor with us full time.  He has agreed to come in the spring.  During this transition, I will carry the load in preaching with the help of Connie W. Adams who serves as an elder here.  Therefore, it is necessary for me to shorten this Philippine trip.  To minimize travel time and maximize teaching time, I will concentrate in Metro Manila.

On February 12-13 I hope to present a series of six lessons on “The Authority of Christ” at the Kapitbahayan church of Christ, Navotas, Metro ManilaJerry Toreja and Fred Gonzales are diligent elders and Elias Cruz is an evangelist at this very active congregation. Several years ago denominational preachers who heard this series at Bacolod City, Negros Occidental asked for DVD copies for additional study and I plan at long last to have the series recorded so that copies can be distributed in future years.  It will be expensive to have it done professionally, but it will be cost effective in years to come.

For many years a deaf mute congregation has met in the Sampaloc community in Manila.  Antonio “Tony Boy” Hornedo is the longtime faithful evangelist there.  All day preaching is scheduled with these dear saints for Sunday, February 14.

February 15-19 will be devoted to a lectureship on the book of Revelation using Dan King’s new workbook and on “Then Comes the End” using Mike Willis’ workbook by that title.  The lessons will be presented in Manila at the Edsa-Pasay church of Christ (meeting on the 4th Floor, J & B Building, 641 EDSA Corner Rodriquez Street extension, Malibay, Pasay City) where Rody Gumpad and Samuel Paet labor.  I will distribute several workbooks for comparative study and a few copies of Robert Harkrider’s Commentary on Revelation.  This will involve some expense but will equip Filipino brethren to become able students of Revelation and to better refute the rampant errors of premillennial theologies which pervert the “one hope,” promote denominationalism, and cause division among Christians (Eph. 4:4-6).  Lordy Salunga has helped me teach these subjects in the past and will join us again as a teacher.

I plan to work with Ely Ebuenga February 20-22.  God willing, we will preach at the Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City which houses 23,000 inmates.  I also hope to visit the congregation meeting at the home of Jimmy Battung in the City of Paranaque.  He is a decorated and retired police chief.  Ely works with three congregations and we will teach some of these brethren also as time permits.

I want to reserve my last day to go to the Philippine Bible Society and order Bibles in Filipino dialects as funds permit.  I am also trying to raise funds for songbooks in their dialects.

Thank you for prayers and donations which make these trips possible!  Individuals needing a legal tax deduction may write checks to Help A Neighbor.  Write all other checks to Ron Halbrook. Mail all checks to 3505 Horse Run Ct., Shepherdsville, KY 40165-6954.  Donors receive financial reports (2 Cor. 8:21).
