HALBROOK REPORT: 70th PHILIPPINE TRIP APRIL 3-MAY 1, 2018
Dear brethren,
I thank God at the completion of my 70th Philippine trip April 3-May 1. God brought me first in 1995 with Jim McDonald. God provided Mark Mayberry to come for his 6th time beginning on April 11. We visited churches to preach on a variety of themes and gathered brethren for intensive classes. Our aim was to saturate souls with God’s Word, “according as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue” (2 Pet. 1:3). I taught 70 lessons and 27 precious souls yielded to Christ by obedient faith by being baptized.
After my arrival in Manila on April 4, Elias Cruz, Sammy Paet, Jhun Gumpad, and Ely Ebuenga helped me sort the packages of Bibles and study materials to be distributed. Friday I flew to Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental in northern Mindanao to meet Cipriano Carpentero, Jr., Jack Jaco, Jonathan Carino, and DonDon Mabasa. Saturday 70 people attended a gospel meeting at the Balulang church in Cagayan de Oro City where Teddy Torres labors. Heaven rejoiced when 12 souls obeyed Christ in baptism.
A young man was baptized into Christ after Sunday services at the Box-1 Macasandig and the San Simon churches served by Cipriano. Monday we traveled west and I preached at Iligan City, Lanao del Norte where Patricio Peregrino labors. Five more submitted to Christ in baptism at Sigapod in Maigo where Alejandro Gallo preaches. Our next stop moving west was at the Rebe church in Lala to preach where Jefone Mancia and Leo Entroso serve as evangelists. Finally our journey ended in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur that night.
Tuesday–Wednesday was devoted to a series on “The Inspiration and Canon of Scripture” at the Bogo church in Pagadian City where 93-year-old Ramon Carino still preaches. This series proves we have all the original 66 books of the Bible and why the Apocrypha, the pseudepigrapha, and many so-called “lost books” are not included in God’s Word. Tuesday night we visited Dumalinao where Cherlito Lauglaug established a congregation of about 25 relatives. April 11 I flew back to Manila to meet Mark Mayberry.
Friday Sammy Paet drove Mark and me to Angeles City to meet Lordy Salunga. He took Mark to the Bayani St. church in Santa Ana in the Pampanga Province where Rupert Gaspar labors while Jerry Morales took me to Anao, Mexico also in Pampanga to preach at a new congregation. That evening we proceeded to Cabanatuan City, Nueva Ecija to work with Jhun Bautista. The next day Jhun took Mark to preach at Canaan West, Rizal while his brother Aires took me to preach under the trees for the new church meeting at Andres, Munoz. Sunday Mark spoke for the 7:00 AM service at the Agbannawag church in Rizal, then we both preached at the 9:00 AM service at Cabanatuan City and the 2:00 PM service at San Jose City. Four were baptized.
April 16-20 Mark, Lordy, and I taught all-day classes on The Home and Family using workbooks on Family Life by L.A. Stauffer and Harmony in the Home by Mike Willis. Many attendees were in their teens and early 20’s along with preachers and it was uplifting to teach people so focused on learning.
Saturday we returned to Manila. On the Lord’s Day Sammy Paet took Mark to Edsa-Pasay while Jerry Toreja brought me to Kapitbahayan and to the church in Paranaque City at Jimmy Battung’s home.
April 23-27 Jonathan Carino joined Mark and me at Kapitbahayan to teach the book of Revelation using Dan King’s excellent workbook as a guide and using Mike Willis’ Then Comes the End. Again our audience included many young people along with the preachers. They all participated well. Saturday Mark preached at Binan, Laguna while I visited Bicas, Caloocan City with Ely Ebuenga, Camarin Phase 6 with Andrew Romero, and Sapang Palay, Bulacan with Vicente Cay. Another young man was baptized for remission of his sins as a result of the preaching at Bicas.
Sunday Mark went to Kapitbahayan and to Paranaque while Sammy Paet took me to meet Ely Ebuenga at the Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City where three were baptized. Then I preached at Edsa-Pasay. Monday I bought 925 Bibles in Filipino dialects to be shipped throughout the Philippines. (Some of you requested the following information: The cost was $7,554. I have paid $4,100, leaving an unpaid balance of $3,454. Any help will be appreciated.)
May God bless everyone who helps make this work possible and may He be glorified in it all.
In Christian love, Ron Halbrook
