Willie Pastor Update 2-25-2015

Dear brethren,
I asked brother Willie Pastor to provide an update on his present situation and needs.  I asked him to list all his needs as well as his sources of income, which he did.  It is not likely all his needs will be met, but any amount will be a blessing to his work and his family.
Anyone who sends support should use MoneyGram or Western Union but avoid sending checks through the mail (they are easily lost or stolen in the Philippines).  If you are not familiar with M.G. or W.U., I can provide information about these services.

Ron home by God’s grace

February 20, 2015th Year of Our Lord
Dear family, brethren, and friends,
By God’s grace I arrived home tonight after 24 hours of travel.  Though physically exhausted, I come home spiritually uplifted by my association with saints in the Philippines and Australia.  It has been a privilege to work with all of these brethren again and to observe their faith, dedication, zeal, love, and sacrifices in serving the Lord.  I thank God for all of these brethren as well as all of the brethren who help to make such preaching trips possible by their encouragement, financial help, and prayers.  I hope to send a formal report on the trip soon.

Halbrook Philippine Report February 13-18, 2015

February 18, 2015
Dear family, friends,& brethren,
Friday got off to a good start when the young men who visited our Wednesday night service came early for our scheduled Bible study this morning. The study and discussion continued for a solid three hours. I presented an overview of God’s plan of redemption from Old Testament to New Testament times, followed by summary of how Catholicism and denominationalism developed. Then I guided him through a study of Mark 16:15-16 coupled with examples of gospel preaching in Acts 2, 8, 16, and 22. Next, he opened his notebook where he had written summaries of things he had read or heard preached, and each entry had a list of questions generated by his reflection on these things.

Halbrook Philippine Report February 11-12, 2015

February 12, 2015th Year of Our Lord
Dear family, friends,& brethren,
Today, February 11, I started catching up on some email, but I may not ever get it all done. I studied my first lesson to start the series tonight on “The Authority of Christ.” There were eight present who regularly attend plus one visitor who saw the ad in the newspaper. He appeared to be in his mid-20’s and was very attentive, turning from passage to passage. My lesson focused on Christ’s authority expressed in Scripture and our visitor understood this concept. During the open forum he said he knew Christ warned about false teachers and, therefore, it was important to check the Scriptures when men teach.

Halbrook Philippine Report February 6-10, 2015

February 10, 2015

Dear family, friends,& brethren,

When I wrote the previous report dated February 6, I was finishing up in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

Early Friday, February 6, Jonathan Carino returned to Cebu City because he was scheduled to go immediately to Leyte for a gospel meeting. Jack Jaco took Sean to look for gifts for his family while I finished some work in my room. We left our hotel with plenty of time to stop and meet a retired Baptist preacher whose daughter I met in Batesville, AR (she is attending frequently the Quail Valley church of Christ where David Halbrook preaches). We had a pleasant visit discussing the Bible. He is disgusted with how many Baptist churches have drifted further and further away from the Bible. I gave him my tract on “The Original Church of Christ.” Jack plans to make some follow-up visits and give him reading material such as J.W. McGarvey’s commentary on Acts.

Halbrook Philippine Report Jan. 30-Feb. 6, 2015

February 6, 2015
Dear family, friends,& brethren,
On Friday, January 30, Sean and I flew from Manila to Bacolod City, Negros Occicental where we met Jacck Jaco and several other brethren. After getting to the hotel, I had a bowl of soup for lunch at 4:00 PM, rested, then worked on email until 8:30 PM when we ate supper. Next, Sean and I walked for an hour to get some exercise and increase our stamina. Back at the hotel I reviewed lesson material for the next day. Before sleeping at 1:00 AM, I called David and Starla to congratulate them on the safe arrival of their new baby girl, Esther Fair Halbrook, who was born the day before.

Halbrook Philippine Report January 26-29, 2015

January 29, 2015th Year of Our Lord

Dear family, friends, & brethren,

Monday I flew to Detroit to meet Sean Rizor who shares the preaching duties at the Fremont, OH church of Christ. He took time off from his job as a policeman to join me on this trip to the Philippines. We flew safely to Japan and on to Manila by God’s grace. I sat next to a denominational preacher on the plane. In our conversation I drew a chart using Mark 16:15-16, Acts 2:38, and Acts 8:35-38 to show baptism is essential as a condition to receive salvation by the grace of God. I gave him my email address and hope to hear from him.

PLEASE SHARE THIS LETTER ON GOSPEL PREACHING IN THE PHILIPPINES!
January 5, 2015th Year of Our Lord

Dear brethren,
God opened the way for me to preach the gospel with Jim McDonald in the Philippines in 1995 and now plans are being made for my 57th trip January 26-February 20, 2015.  Souls burdened by the crushing weight of sin and guilt thrill to hear the beautiful invitation of the Savior, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matt. 11:28-30).  Sean Rizor, an evangelist at the Fremont, OH church of Christ, and I will echo that beautiful invitation of Christ in the Philippines.  When he returns home on February 7, I will proceed to Gladstone, Queensland, Australia to do my best to encourage the saints there in their good work.

December 20, 2014th Year of Our Lord
HALBROOK REPORT: 56th PHILIPPINE TRIP December 1-19, 2014
Dear brethren,
By God’s grace and providence my 56th Philippine trip and 6th New Zealand trip have now been successfully completed.  It seems like only yesterday when Jim McDonald first took me to the Philippines in 1995.  Paul emphasized the necessity of steadfastness in 1 Corinthians 15:58, “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”  In the Philippines I urged the brethren to be steadfast to produce leadership in the church, and in New Zealand I urged the saints to be persistent in preaching.  All in all 25  lessons were presented, and two precious souls submitted to Christ in baptism.

Ron safely home Dec. 19

December 19, 2014th Year of Our Lord
Dear family, brethren, and friends,
By God’s grace and mercy I am finally home again safely, physically exhausted but spiritually refreshed and uplifted.  It was a great joy to work with the saints at the Kapitbahayan church of Christ in Navotas, Metro Manila to study leadership in the church.  Congregations like this one continue to mature and are determined to fulfill God’s plan for having scriptural elders and deacons.  Then, again, it was also a joy to labor with the saints of the Meadowood church of Christ in Auckland, New Zealand.  The two baptism there will open new doors for this church’s persistent efforts to spread the gospel.
