Philippine Preaching April 5-May 3, 2017

PLEASE SHARE THIS LETTER ON GOSPEL PREACHING IN THE PHILIPPINES!
March 18, 2017th Year of Our Lord

Dear brethren,

April 5-May 3 is set for my 66th preaching trip to the Philippines after Jim McDonald first introduced me to this work in 1995.  I keep returning because there is a great harvest of precious souls seeking God and salvation.  As many are baptized into Christ, they need follow-up teaching and edification.  In all of this work many Filipino brethren are heroes of faith and it is a privilege to work at their sides.  They do not need foreigners like me to take over or control the work they are doing, but we can encourage them, equip them, and hold up their hands in the good work they are doing.  That is the purpose of this trip.  After 12 souls were baptized into Christ at Ephesus, Paul reminded them they had been saved by grace through faith to become diligent workers in the kingdom of God:  “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them” (Acts 19:5; Eph. 2:10).

My schedule calls for me to arrive in Manila late on the evening of April 6.  The next day Filipino brethren will meet me to make arrangements to ship boxes of teaching materials ahead to the venues where I will distribute and use them. I will visit a money changer and make other preparations for the scheduled work.

On April 8 I plan to fly to Davao City in southern Mindanao to work with Juanito Balbin and his sons (Dudley Ross, Sonni Dave, W. Connie).   Many young people will gather for a week-long series of Bible studies beginning on Monday.  I will distribute the workbook “How to Study the Bible” from the Word in the Heart class books published by the Guardian of Truth.  This will be our guide Monday through Wednesday and I will also teach two additional lessons on “Selecting a Mate: The Lord Builds the House” (Ps. 127).

I regret it will not be possible to continue teaching in Davao City until Friday, but on Thursday I will travel to Ozmiz City in the province of Misamis Occidental on the northern side of Mindanao.  After preaching in the area Friday and Saturday, I will travel over an hour to the north to reach Oroquieta City where Nelson Flores has been preaching for many years.  We will work together on Sunday, God willing.

Teddy Gumpad, the youngest son of Rody and Tessie, will marry on April 18 in Tuguegarao in the Cagayan Province in northern Luzon.  My participation was requested last year, so I will fly there on the 17th, join the wedding on the 18th, and take part in a study for preachers on the 19th.

April 20-28 is reserved for Angeles City in the Pampanga Province on Luzon.  In addition to some preaching in the area, the Southside Church of Christ where Lordy Salunga preaches will be the site of two separate series Monday through Friday.  The first couple of days will be devoted to classes for young people on “How to Study the Bible” and the rest of the time preachers will use as a study guide Mike Willis’ workbook entitled “Then Comes the End.”  The latter study will include topics such as death, hades, the Judgment, heaven, hell, and various false doctrines such as the A.D. 70 theory and premillennialism.

From Angeles City I will travel back to Manila on Saturday, April 29, and work with Ely Ebuenga Sunday and Monday.  We may divide our time between the national prison and a group of denominational preachers who have agreed to study.

Tuesday, May 2, is reserved to visit the Philippine Bible Society in Manila to order Bibles in various Filipino dialects to be shipped to brethren throughout the islands.
