Report on July – August Preaching in Kenya & Philippines

September 2, 2023nd Year of Our Lord

HALBROOK REPORT: 83rd PHILIPPINE TRIP JULY 26-SEPTEMBER 1, 2023

Dear brethren,

A merciful God used Jim McDonald to take me to the Philippines in 1995 and my 83rd trip has now been completed July 26-September 1.  July 26-August 8 was spent working with Paul Coffman in Kenya and the rest of the time I labored in the Philippines.  I taught 82 lessons.  47 souls submitted to Christ in baptism.  784 Bibles in Filipino dialects were purchased and shipped to the saints.

The kingdom of darkness cannot withstand the light of the gospel.  “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Cor. 4:6). That light is shining brightly in Kenya and the Philippines.

I flew from Louisville to Nairobi, Kenya via Atlanta and Amsterdam July 26-27, where I met Paul Coffman and Joseph Warui.  We traveled to Nyahururu and preached for several of the 30 churches in the area.  August 1-3 about 60 preachers attended classes on “How to Study the Bible” and on “Marriage and Morals.”  In addition to lessons designed to edify saints, Paul and I preached to a number of denominational preachers who had been invited to hear the gospel.  There is fertile ground in Kenya!

August 8-9 I flew from Nairobi to Manila via Qatar and Hong Kong.  On the 11th I worked with Sammy Medrano at the Taytay church in Rizal near Manila.  The next day I flew to General Santos City in southern Mindanao.  Jonathan Carino joined me to work with our brethren in this region.

Sunday over 100 souls heard me preach on “The Resurrection of Christ” at the Kiongok church in Maasim in the Province of Sarangani where Salvador Parbo preaches (9 baptized) and again at Nomoh, Maasim, Sarangani Province with Darwin Dawang.  After a short visit at Dampilan, Maasin with Eduardo Diamana, Sr., I preached on Psalm 23 at Kyumad, Amsipit, Maasin with Allan Moyak (1 restored, 2 baptized).  On Monday Jolly Julom guided us to 7 churches in the remote area of Lake Sebu where I preached on the resurrection and on Psalm 23.  Our visits included the damaged building at Three Fingers with Jerry Bento; Lamsual with Nono Calamban; Mabuhay, Bacdulong with Jovanie Ugen (10 baptized); Tbong with Rebie Mamada; Buayan, Lamlahak with Arnel Antang;
Lamdalag with Santos Flang; and a short visit at the Segundo Village church with Jovanie Ugen.

On the 15th Jolly brought us to Glamang, Polomolok, South Cotabato with Toto Samson (4 baptized) & Purok Tribal with Romel Dazon (3 baptized).  Wednesday was devoted to Bible lectures for preachers at the Lanton church of Christ, Apopong, General Santos City with Jolly Julom.  Thursday we drove to Davao City to hold a gospel meeting Friday at Magpet, North Cotabato where Joel Neniel labors & 310 attended (2 baptized).  A plane took us to Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur Saturday, where we preached 2 days with Alvin Miguel (5 baptized).

We flew to Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental Tuesday to work with Stephen Carpentero the next day.  Thursday over 150 met with us at the Eslon church, Sta. Felomena in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte where Edgar Samodal preaches (4 baptized).  Friday we reached the Rebe church at Lala, Lanao del Norte where Jechris Mancia labors (3 baptized).  Time allowed for a short visit at Purok 5, Butadon, Kapatagan where Romeo Samodal preaches.  We drove to Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, and Saturday I preached with Ernie Collado at Lower Sambulawan, Ramon Magsaysay and at Lower Pulacan, Labangan.  That afternoon I spoke at Manga where James Armada is an evangelist.  Sunday was spent with the saints at Camanga Dumalinao with 40 souls.

Monday-Tuesday I spoke on the theme “Marriage and Morals” at the Bogo church in Pagadian City where Ezekiel Carino preaches.  Over 60 attended, mostly preachers from the area.

The 30th I flew to Manila.  Thursday I bought 784 Bibles at the Philippine Bible Society to ship to saints throughout the Philippines, which is always a highlight of these trips. Working with Filipino saints lifted my heart again as I observed their faith, hope, and love in the Lord!

September 1 brought me home to my dear wife and the saints of the Hebron Lane church of Christ in Shepherdsville, KY who help to make these trips possible. Thank God for all the saints who share this work!

In Christian love,
Ron Halbrook
