Update on Benevolence Distribution to Earthquake Victims 1-22-2020

Dear family, brethren, and friends,

The devastation caused by the 5 earthquakes plus over 3,000 aftershocks in southern Mindanao since October is staggering, but God’s love and mercy is being poured out through the sacrifices of His saints in many places who are sending benevolence funds to relieve the suffering of the saints.  Two reports are reproduced below which you may have time to scan.  Faithful Filipino brethren are still relaying the benevolence to our brethren who are in need of help.

Meanwhile, Filipino evangelists also continue to utilize opportunities to preach the pure and simple gospel of Christ.  Poverty and suffering often humble people and cause them to seek God and salvation.  The result is that many have submitted to Christ in baptism for the remission of their sins through the blood of Christ.

The work of preaching and the distribution of benevolence are being done as separate activities.  There is no program of preaching which offers benevolence as a reward for baptism, so that is not why so many are being converted.  Many Americans find it hard to believe people still obey the gospel in large numbers, but I have witnessed this occurring since I first preached in the Philippines in 1995.  More often baptisms occur in small numbers even in the Philippines, but there are times when many precious souls yield to Christ.  Especially in areas where the people are very poor, the gospel penetrates their hearts in a very powerful way.  If the gospel penetrated 3,000 souls on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2, why is it not possible for the gospel to demonstrate the same power today when it comes into contact with honest humble hearts?  Let us say with Paul in Romans 1:16,  “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

Philippine brethren have responded as best they can by sending help to their brethren, as have saints in the U.S. and even other countries.  I have been sending benevolence funds periodically as donations have been sent to me for that purpose.  Michael and Donna Glaesemann (michael@butw.org) have also been relaying donations.  Individuals sending through them can make donations to Bread Upon the Waters which qualify for a legal tax deduction (mailing address 264  CR 2125, Burkeville, Texas 75932).

I am willing to provide detailed information about how to send funds.  Also I am willing to serve as a messenger to send funds on behalf of individuals or churches which may request my help.  Checks from individuals should be written to Ron Halbrook and sent to 3505 Horse Run Ct., Shepherdsville, KY 40165-6954 (or Paypal to halbrook@twc.com).  Individuals wanting a legal tax deduction should make checks to Help A Neighbor and send them to the same address with a note stating the donation is for the victims of the earthquake.  Churches should make checks to Ron Halbrook and use the same address.

God willing, I will be in the Philippines February 4-25, so funds sent during that period cannot be sent until March.  Meanwhile, Michael and Donna Glaesemann are available to serve in relaying funds.

In Christian love,
Ron Halbrook

THE NAME OF THEIR TRIBE IS LANGILAN TRIBE.

THEY STARTED HEARING THE TRUTH ON NOVEMBER, 2019. PREACHERS WHO COOPERATED ARE: 1)OFREN MARAPAN, 2)BOBONG UBANON, 3)MOCA MARAPAN, 4)JESIE AMBOY, 5)ME – JULIE DIVINE A. NOTARTE, 6)JOSEPH NOTARTE, & 7)DANNY PEREZ. BUT WE GIVE ALL THE GLORY TO GOD. THEY ARE ALSO LISTENING OUR RADIO PREACHING. OUR RADIO PREACHING HERE IN DIGOS CITY (DXDS) BY ME & MY SONS, RADIO PREACHING AT KIDAPAWAN CITY (DXCM) BY BRO. HOPE ITDANG, & RADIO PREACHING AT DAVAO CITY (DXUM) BY MY YOUNGEST BROTHER IN THE FLESH BENJIE JAMES A. NOTARTE.

THEY ARE VERY INTERESTED IN HEARING THE WORD OF GOD. YOU CAN SEE IT ON THE PICTURES ATTACHED DURING OUR GOSPEL MEETING & ALSO DURING THE BAPTISM OF TWO HUNDRED SEVENTY SOULS. BUT THEY ARE VERY HARD UP IN THEIR LIVING. THEY ONLY EAT  ONCE A DAY BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO FOOD. THEY ARE EVACUEES SINCE OCTOBER, 2019. BEFORE THE EARTHQUAKE, THERE WAS A SEVERE WAR IN THEIR PLACE BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT FORCES & COMMUNIST REBELS. SIXTY NINE REBELS INCLUDING CIVILIANS DIED. CIVILIANS DIED DUE TO HIT BY ASTRAY BULLETS DURING TO SUDDEN ENCOUNTER BETWEEN THE GOVERNMENT FORCES & THE COMMUNIST REBELS. THEN FOLLOWED BY EARTHQUAKES THAT DESTROYED THEIR HOUSES & PLANTS. THEIR HOUSES WERE TOTALLY DESTROYED & BIG CRACKS & BIG FAULTS, BIG LANDSLIDES. THEN FOLLOWED BY STRONG WINDS & FLOODS. THEY ARE NOT ANYMORE ALLOWED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO RETURN TO THEIR PLACE. OUR GOVERNMENT GAVE THEM TENTS FOR TEMPORARY SHELTER BUT IT IS ALREADY DILAPIDATED & EVERY TIME THERE ARE RAINS THEY ARE WET INCLUDING THEIR SMALL CHILDREN & ALL THEIR THINGS UNDER THE TENT. MANY OF THEM HAVE ONE OR TWO CLOTHES ONLY. MANY OF THEIR SMALL CHILDREN WERE WALKING WITHOUT CLOTHES. BUT I DID NOT TAKE PICTURES OF THOSE CHILDREN WHO HAVE NO CLOTHES. WE WILL GO BACK AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE & GIVE CLOTHES TO THEM & FOOD & MEDICINES IF POSSIBLE.

OUR GOVERNMENT IS NOT ANYMORE GIVING FOOD TO THEM. THEY WERE GIVEN FOOD ONLY ON THE FIRST TWO THREE MONTHS (OCTOBER-DECEMBER, 2019).

PREACHING IN THIS PLACE NEEDS BIG AMOUNT OF MONEY. BECAUSE THEY ONLY EAT ONCE A DAY BECAUSE OF NO ENOUGH FOOD, EVERY TIME WE PREACH TO THEM THE WORD OF GOD, WE BROUGHT FOOD FOR THEM. THEY COULD NOT LISTEN WELL THE WORD OF GOD WHEN WE PREACHED FOR MANY HOURS WITHOUT FOOD. THEY ARE IN SEVERE HUNGER.

BECAUSE MY CO-PREACHERS IN THIS PLACE HAVE NO FINANCIAL SUPPORT & THEY ARE ALSO IN SEVERE HUNGER, THEY ARE ALSO VICTIMS OF EARTHQUAKES, THEIR HOUSES & THEIR CHURCH BUILDINGS & THEIR PLANTS WERE ALSO DEVASTATED BY EARTHQUAKES, THEY ARE ALSO VERY HARD UP FOR THEIR LIVING, AND SO EVERY TIME THEY PREACHED I GAVE MONEY TO THEM FOR THEIR FARES & FOR THEIR FOOD, & FOOD FOR THOSE WHO LISTEN THE WORD OF GOD. AND SO, OUR PREACHING EXPENSES STARTED NOVEMBER, 2019 IN THIS PLACE, INCLUDING OUR TRAVEL EXPENSES FROM DIGOS CITY TO MANGKALUNGAY, SAN FERNANDO, BUKIDNON, IS MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS. I BORROWED THIS AMOUNT. THIS INCLUDES OUR FOOD, OUR HOTEL EXPENSES FOR ONE NIGHT (WE SLEEP IN HOTEL BECAUSE WE ARE NOT SAFE BECAUSE THERE ARE REBELS IN THE PLACE WHERE WE HELD GOSPEL MEETING).

I WANT TO GO BACK THERE & PREACHED ONCE A WEEK SO THAT OUR BRETHREN WILL BE EDIFIED & MANY MORE ALIEN SINNERS INTERESTED IN HEARING THE WORD OF GOD, BUT I HAVE NO ENOUGH MONEY FOR GOSPEL MEETINGS & BIBLE LECTURES BECAUSE WE MUST ALSO GAVE FOOD FOR THOSE WHO WILL LISTEN THE WORD OF GOD. THEY ARE IN SEVERE HUNGER.

IF WE WILL GO BACK & GIVE TENTS TO THEM, TENTS WILL BE GOOD ONLY FOR TWO TO THREE MONTHS ONLY. THAT IS WHY I AM LOOKING FOR A CHAIN SAW SO THAT THEY CAN USE IT TO REBUILD THEIR CHURCH BUILDING & THEIR HOUSES.

ON THE PAST THREE MONTHS I DISTRIBUTED TENTS TO MORE THAN FIFTY CONGREGATIONS WORTH P300,000 PLUS OR $6,000 PLUS USD AT DAVAO DEL SUR AREAS & NEIGHBOR PLACES. BECAUSE OF THIS VERY BIG EXPENSES FOR THE TENTS & IS ONLY GOOD FOR 2 TO 3 MONTHS, WE IMMEDIATELY STARTED REBUILDING HOUSES & CHURCH BUILDINGS OF OUR BRETHREN AT DAVAO DEL SUR & NEIGHBOR PLACES. THE MORE THAN FIFTY HOUSES & CHURCH BUILDINGS ARE ALREADY FINISHED & THE OTHER MORE THAN FIFTY HOUSES & CHURCH BUILDINGS ARE NOT YET FINISHED. SOME OF IT HAD JUST STARTED & SOME ARE HALF OR STILL MORE OR LESS 50%.

THERE ARE MANY BRETHREN WHO ARE SICK IN THE EVACUATION CENTERS. ALMOST EVERY DAY THERE ARE BRETHREN WHO ARE COMING PLEADING FOR HELP FOR HOSPITAL EXPENSES. THERE WERE BRETHREN WHO DIED IN THE EVACUATION CENTERS DUE TO ILLNESS. MANY VERY SICK BRETHREN BROUGHT BY AMBULANCE TO HOSPITALS BUT NO ANY HELP FOR THEIR MEDICINES & HOSPITAL BILLS. AT THIS TIME VERY LITTLE HELP FOR THE FOOD OF THOSE EVACUEES. WE DO WHAT WE CAN DO TO HELP OUR NEEDY BRETHREN.

PLEASE HELP OUR NEEDY BRETHREN. ANY AMOUNT OF HELP EVEN THOUGH HOW SMALL IT IS WILL BE GREATLY RECEIVE & PROPERLY USE. PLEASE PRAY THAT GOD WILL TOUCH HEARTS OF BRETHREN WHO ARE ABLE TO HELP. WE NEED HELP FOR THE BUKIDNON BRETHREN WHO ARE VICTIMS OF EARTHQUAKES. THE HELP WE RECEIVE ON THE PAST WEEK & THIS WEEK IS NOT ENOUGH FOR THE IMMEDIATE NEEDS OF OUR BRETHREN HERE IN DAVAO DEL SUR AREAS & NEIGHBOR PLACES SPECIALLY FOR THE HUNDREDS OF BRETHREN WHOSE PLACES WERE DECLARED BY OUR GOVERNMENT “NO MAN’S LAND”.

I HAVE MANY MORE TO REPORT. MANY BAPTISMS ON THE PAST MONTHS & THIS MONTH. GLORY TO GOD. BUT I HAVE NO ENOUGH TIME TO REPORT. IN THIS REPORT ALONE, I SPENT EIGHT HOURS IN MAKING THIS REPORT. IT IS ALSO VERY HARD UP TO ATTACHED PICTURES BECAUSE OUR INTERNET IS SLOW & I HAVE ALSO PROBLEMS OF MY COMPUTER.

ATTACHED ARE PICTURES OF GOSPEL MEETING & BAPTISM. PLEASE PRAY THAT THE NEWLY BAPTIZED WILL REMAIN FAITHFUL. THEY NEED US TO EDIFY THEM. BUT THIS IS QUITE FAR FROM OUR PLACE. IT IS ABOUT SIX HOURS ONE WAY FROM DIGOS CITY TO THE HINTERLANDS OF SAN FERNANDO, BUKIDNON. ABOVE ALL IT IS A CRITICAL PLACE. WE CROSS BIG RIVER THAT HAS NO BRIDGE.

THE BRETHREN NEEDS CEBUANO HYMNALS & BIBLES. WE WILL ALSO PRINT STUDY MATERIALS FOR THEM TO STUDY. PLEASE PRAY THAT GOD WILL SUPPLY OUR IMMEDIATE NEEDS.

WE STARTED PREACHING IN BUKIDNON AREAS ON 1997. ONE OF THOSE BAPTIZED ON THIS YEAR WAS OUR CO-PREACHER BRO. MOCA MARAPAN. THERE WERE ALREADY MORE THAN FIFTY CONGREGATIONS IN BUKIDNON AREAS, BUT BECAUSE WE HAVE NO ENOUGH MONEY FOR PREACHING IN THIS PLACE, WE WERE NOT ABLE TO VISIT THEM REGULARLY, MANY CONGREGATIONS DIED. WE WANT TO HELD BIBLE LECTURES & OR PREACHER TRAINING CLASS FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO PREACH IN THIS PLACE BUT WE HAVE NO ENOUGH MONEY FOR THIS. SOMETIMES WE COULD ONLY VISIT THEM ONCE IN SIX MONTHS. SOMETIMES ONCE IN FOUR MONTHS. BRO. RON HALBROOK WITH HIS CO-PREACHER – I FORGOT WHO HE WAS, WERE ABLE TO HELD BIBLE LECTURES IN KITAOTAO, BUKIDNON ABOUT SEVEN YEARS AGO. AFTER THAT, NO MORE U.S. BRETHREN HAD HELD BIBLE LECTURES IN BUKIDNON AREAS.

PLEASE PRAY THAT GOD WILL HELP US FINANCIALLY FOR PREACHING EXPENSES IN BUKIDNON AREAS. YOU ARE IN OUR PRAYERS.

SINCERELY, YOUR BROTHER IN CHRIST,

Dear brother Ron,

Greetings in the name of our Lord.I hope you are doing well together with sister Donna.

Thank you for all your reports. I am glad of the fruitful  results of your recent Philippine trip. I am happy to learn you are having again  a Philippine trip on February. I am home at this time writing this report. I have no time doing it in Ginatilan,Kidapawan where i based in helping the needy saints affected by strong Earthquakes.

I went home last week after being so busy in the distribution of benevolence. We have time also  in gospel preaching that resulted brethren were encouraged and strengthen and there many souls baptized into Christ. In our joint efforts with the brethren preachers in Kidapawan it reached more or less a hundred souls baptized into Christ.

With the use of my car we were able to reach the province of Bukidnon, Arakan , Roxas and Magpet. Brother Jolly Julom were able to give benevolence to 7 congregations.

December 13, I had the opportunity to preach the saving gospel of Christ inside the  Kidapawan City Jail. Brother Joel Ayag is doing the work inside the jail. The schedule of his study here is everyday Friday and it took several months of his coming here. Finally on that day there 5 precious souls obeyed the gospel.I Immersed each of them in the big drum. Each of them received Bibles you sent to me. Joel is working on to get a permit in the Jail office to have a worship services every Lord’s day.

I was able to witness  the distribution of cash funds given to preachers and also for the most affected saints that are living temporarily in evacuation centers. Connie Ben Balbin and Jolly Julom funds were used to make it possible and i know the funds was came from you. Brethren are so happy with the blessing  they received and praise and thank God.

I received the 10,000 pesos from brother Jolly Julom and 10,000 from Connie Balbin, those funds are intended for the church buildings. I  put those cash funds  on the bank. I am still waiting for the relocation site for our brethren in Ilomavis and Makilala. If the government will provide this year I will use those funds for the church buildings.

December 17, We travel so early going to Anggaan, Bukidnon together with Hope Itdang, Hafley Caa,  Felipe Tula and my father in law to preach and deliver benevolence.  The small church is full of attendance when we arrived. We started the preaching and it ended with the confession of 35 precious souls. We immersed them right away to the beautiful river of Anggaan. The local preacher here is brother Nedie Colago. So far there are only four active congregations are in the province of Bukidnon.

I will get back tomorrow to continue the work of helping the needy saints there. I give all i can to stay there for almost two Months and will stay more weeks there until we were able to help all the saints there.

I am sorry if i am late in giving this report i have no time doing it when I was in Kidapawan. The needs is still big and i hope you can continue to send help for our affected brethren. I ask brother Kevin Stilts to help me in sending you the pictures of documents of distribution here. The documents are the second round which brother  Nestor Francisco and Jolly Julom gave some supplies.

Nestor Francisco 95 sacks of rice and it can give 931 persons. He will provide you receipts of the rice. Jolly Julom provided for supplies like sugar, noodles, coffee, beef loaf and corned beef.  He will provide you the receipts.

I have no more Bibles left. I provided some of our brethren in Kidapawan area. If you can send some for me in your next trip that is highly appreciated.

Thank you so much brother Ron for all your help. We appreciate it so much.  Please visit the brethren and preach in Kidapawan, Magpet and Makilala. Brother Jonathan Carino is going there on January 10-11 we invited him for two days lectures. Those areas are safe to travel and no rebels and bandits there as what i always heard from people who are not telling the truth. When i get there i found out that it happened to have rebels and wars  long long time ago in the year of 1970-1980.I was able to travel the places even to the remote one in my distribution and so glad people in those areas friendly and hospitable.

I pray for you and your wife Donna everyday.

Happy New Year!

In Him
Salvador
